50 game rule?

how about: a player can not join a tournament (or an open game) if he/she has more than 20 (or so) active games with less than 10 (or so) moves? or some rule like that. that way players that can handle playing several dozens of active games can continue to do so as long as he/she is keeping up with all the games. also, a rule can be included that a player can not start a game or join a tournament if he/she has active games with timeouts where is his/her turn to move.

An interesting compromise. It does mean that a player can be disadvantaged by playing slower opponents but I think your suggestion is much better than the current rule.

Why not just play in another site. You can have as many games as you want and meet other people too.

razoman makes a compelling arguement. That is the most powerful way to object to this rule. However there are positives about this site. The fifty game rule is not suffecient reason to leave. In fact I am not going to enter any new tournaments until I finish some non chess projects. I was selecting moves without moving pieces. Now I am moving pieces in dificult positions. I wonder if I can keep up with 50 games if I play them as postal games?

When and if I am able handle more than 50 games again I will play on another site. Miguel runs the risk that I will like the new site better and switch to that site. If he loses members his advertisers hence income will follow.
