If we compare Brazil with Russia, for example, we'll find more chess players in Russia than in Brazil. Certainly, chess is more popular in Russia than in Brazil and, like tio_revas said, in Brazil we have a few chess clubs.
It's really difficult to find players to challenge, outside the Internet. So, the Internet is the way to play chess. And, like I said in the other post, Brazilians love Internet and spent much time in the net.
